DIY: Makeup Case

As stated in my introduction, I do just about anything artistic. Makeup Artistry is a hobby of mine and one of the things I am planning on going to college for if not to help me get my foot in the door of modeling or acting. So, I guess it's more than just a hobby. It's currently a freelance job and a passion. I love makeup. Over Christmas I acquired a lot of makeup. I needed a place to store it. I got the bright idea to start looking for a case and wanted to build a custom one! Right now it's not glamorous or flashy. Right now it's clean cut and professional. Maybe when I get a little bigger and more known I will decorate it a little more. But for now here is my how to:

Things you will need:

The case of choice
Electric Knife
Organizer (I chose the tackle box due to the inside can be customized any day!)
Cloth
Measuring Tape
Hot Glue Gun
Scissors
and a marker

Step 1: Measure Everything!

Using the measuring tape, measure all dimensions of the inside of your case. Then using the electric knife cut your foam to those measurements. Remember foam is a squishy material it doesn't need to be 100% perfect but the more perfect the better it is! SAVE ALL SCRAPS FOR FUTURE USE OR MISTAKES! Make sure you also take that foam and test it inside your case!

Step 2: Measuring your container/organizer!

Place your container(s) on top of your foam to decide where you want everything to be placed. Trace the bottoms onto the foam with marker. Take legitimate measurements and redo your traces so you know you will not make any mistakes when you cut.

STEP 4: Cut out the center!

Using your electric knife, cut the foam again and remove the unnecessary foam. Again just place on the side for possible later use on this or other projects.

STEP 5: Notches

If your case has notches or latches of any kind now is the time to use the electric knife or scissors to help make them accessible and give your case the ability to close and latch so your makeup doesn't go flying everywhere during travel.

STEP 6: Fitting In Check!

Make sure all your pieces fit! And check to make sure you can easily lock and unlock your organizer's lid!

STEP 7: Cloth

Spread out your cloth, plan how you want it to look when you wrap it over the foam. I didn't do great planning on that but I am hoping you care a little more than I did. Also plug in your hot glue gun! You will be using it soon. Using your scissors, cut out the material to your personal pattern for your foam!

STEP 8: Covering your notches!

If you had to cut notch areas cover them first with excess fabric. You want to make sure they stay smooth and it helped with the rest of the fabric coverings. At least for my design it did.
Then proceed to cover the rest of your foam as planned! Be careful not to burn yourself! And do not hot glue the foam into the case! This case is meant to be able to change at your will (and work!).

STEP 9: Put it together!

Assemble your makeup and what nots inside and make sure it all fits nicely! Enjoy your new personal case! Decorate it how ever you please and etc! Oh wait! I did do something else special check out my next step to see my personal touch instead of glam!

SPECIAL SECRET MY CASE HOLDS IS....
A MIRROR! Behind the removeable brush (technically wire holder) holder is a mirror. I took some excess foam and used the hot glue to secure it in place to ensure it was glued well and would not break easily! Here are the photos for that part of my case!
